Robert Nicol Scholarship Rules
The Trustees under the Will of the late Robert Nicol will offer Scholarships which will advance or promote education in the City or County of Aberdeen.
The following Regulations in accordance with the Scheme of the Robert Nicol Trust have been drawn up by the Trustees:-
(i) Candidates must have been born in the City or in the County of Aberdeen, or in the case of those born elsewhere must have continuously resided in the City or in the County of Aberdeen for a period of not less than five years immediately before the dates of their application.*
(ii) Candidates must satisfy the Trustees that they are fully qualified to pursue with profit the course of study proposed, and save in exceptional circumstances should be 21 years of age.
(iii) Candidates must submit a written statement of the course of study or research proposed. In any case study shall be carried on in such places and institutions and under such tuition or supervision as the Trustees shall approve. While the Trustees will normally expect an Applicant to be registered with or intending to register with a recognised establishment in the North-east of Scotland, they recognise that circumstances may make it necessary for study to be conducted outwith the region and will accordingly consider proposals which envisage this. Scholarships may be awarded for part time courses.
(iv) Scholarships will be given for such period as the Trustees may determine, but in the first instance for a period of not more than a year. A Scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of the Trustees. The amount to be awarded shall be determined by the Trustees. Any application for a renewal of funding should be accompanied by a report on progress to date.
(v) Applicants are required to attend for interview by the Trustees on the day of the Meeting.
(vi) At least one of the referees asked for under (12) on page 4 of the application form should be an academic or professional person acquainted with the applicant's educational studies.
(vii) The Robert Nicol Trust is a relatively small Trust with limited income. Scholarships awarded by the Trustees reflect this fact, generally being within the range of £100 to £1,500.
(viii) The decision of the Trustees will be binding on any interpretation of the Trust rules.
Applications should be lodged with the Secretary to the Trustees, Christine Aves, 100 Union Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1QR; ca@peterkins.com from whom further particulars may be obtained. Meetings are generally held in May and October. Applications must be lodged at least 28 days prior to a meeting. The date of the next meeting will be advertised on the Important Notices section of this website.
